Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of FDA-approved medications prescribed by experienced physicians to treat substance use disorder and help prevent opioid overdose. MAT is primarily used for the treatment of addiction to opioids, such as heroin, as well as prescription pain relievers that contain opiates. These medications work to lessen patients’ cravings for opiates, thus helping them abstain from substance use with the goal of promoting lasting recovery.
“National and international health organizations, such as the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and the World Health Organization, consider MAT an evidence-based best practice for treating opioid use disorder.”
(SAMSHA Winter 2016)
“Research has shown buprenorphine to be an effective pharmacotherapy for treating opioid use disorder. Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of buprenorphine through patient retention and reductions in opioid-positive drug test results.”
(SAMSHA Winter 2016)
Medication-assisted treatment is administered by physicians who have extensive, hands-on experience in addiction medicine. Victory Recovery Partners (VRP) offers a variety of effective medications for substance use disorder, including:
- Suboxone (buprenorphine)
- Vivitrol
- Sublocade
- Probuphine Implants
The facilities at VRP are new, comfortable, and welcoming. We believe this will give patients a sense of well-being, along with a desire to continue being cared for in our facilities.
PROGRAM PHASES
VRP’s medication-assisted treatment program includes the following phases, which are designed to most effectively help patients with their substance use disorder and achieve long-term, lasting recovery:
- Patient Intake – Completion of registration packet, and review of insurance or payment information.
- Induction Phase – Brief clinical assessment, collection of vital signs and other customary tests, and determination of initial medication dosing by VRP medical doctor.
- Maintenance Phase – Continued medication assisted treatment and monitoring of recovery results.
- Stabilization – Possible tapering of medication, if patient and provider agree this is appropriate.
